Want
from the store
She wanted more time to finish the test, I want a new ipad, I want world peace, I want perfect weather, You can choose whichever color you want
Thousands of poor people still want food and shelter
She wants a garden, I want to watch it grow

The Color Of Dust
between the branches of
the green trees
which sit in the shade of the golden sun
and orange is the color of
sunshine
before the droplets of blue
rain
soak the earth a deep
rich brown
and life is the color of
light
because even tonight
you glow

With All Our Forgets & Plans
These sad glad mad times filled with unusual rhymes
and the darkest finds in fruit so sweet
lemon rhymes and purple beats
In a jovial garden of moist wet air
full of lingering fruit
We held the leaves
but forgot the root

Poet Tree
lost and morally bankrupt it took 3 days
on the freeways till i arrived at
the circulation
station
a place where human nature and
local fauna re
connect
i sat in the pink chair by the open window
where i could shoot the breeze
with enormous
trees
and observe the delicate dance
between soil and
sun
she handed me a bowl of chilled
liquified beets with a spoonful
of sour
cream
sitting off center like a little
glacier lost in a
purple
sea
wondering how the political landscape
got so out of hand i fell asleep
and when i
awoke
the transformation had already begun
looking up i saw all
my branches
now
pathways for birds to mingle and the breeze
to tingle it really was
heaven on
earth

Artificial Intelligence
walking through the artificial forest
and breathing the plastic air
we sip soda
from our styrofoam cups
and stroll happily
along
the pine strewn path
for a day and a
half
lying down to rest
under the blue
frozen sky
we look up at the wind
as it blows our
mind
suddenly chilled, stirred
and shaken
we awaken in an empty room
with a giant sun
and
it almost looks
real

Life On Mars
Languishing on the verge of being
bumped into tomorrow
they sit in coffee shops and bodegas
waiting for their paycheck
while they cover their bodies in dust
and try to remember
if there was life
on mars

The Fairy Tale Factory
we met in a factory full of fairy god mothers and tooth fairies
young and broke but full of
dreams
long before you developed a taste for fine scotch
you and i would watch color tv and
get lost in
space
kicking forward twenty five years latter on the
lower east side at an aa meeting
we met
again
i didn't tell you that i didn't believe in this
rhythmic kick it
crap
and the only reason i was here was to meet
women who
drink
over coffee you were somehow able to encapsulate
the last twenty five years of your life
in one perfect
paragraph
but no words were needed to feel how broken
we'd both
become
and then you smiled and i knew
that you
remembered
when we were
both
new

The Final Draft
I laid on my back looking at the sky that afternoon
imagining trees when their leaves
were still
green
while an elephants trunk investigates
the still air
all the wild places i never got to visit are now
just a bunch of insta-matic photographs
that float in my
mind
the elephants and lions were first
the horses and dogs last
setting across the barren landscape
like an ancient
glacier
with a million stories and
a thousand legs
there was no poetry that night because
all the wordsmiths left long ago
to soak
in the memories of tomorrow
and prepare for
yesterday
we were the only animals left now
all the rest just a memory
a moist
imprint

Invisable Scars
as real as a gutter ball
we fall strike
three
into the dirt and
forever
hurt
it's been 40 days of
dust and
pain
purple hearts
and yellow
rain
and i heard him say freedom
is just another word in
a car
commercial
before he was
inadvertently
tossed
and forever lost
somewhere
between a memory
and
nowhere

The Evening Glitter
Quite words typed out on a keyboard late at night
while the moon shines bright
is all that remains in these
time worn veins
just a voice a-twitter in the
evening glitter

Drunk On Rhyme
I left my home and extinct profession
to walk the empty streets during
those orange
summers
we were alone together and covered
in nicotine patch quilts
singing
frozen marmalade pop songs
and adding color to the high
contrast grey
days
playing jazz and new world sounds
on countertops and garbage
cans we danced like
children
and somehow managed
to touch each others
sweet
spot

Combustible Bliss
Like a meteor shower
dancing down
my drain
i stay inside and
watch it rain
all purple haze and
shimmering film
and the blue light from the television
watches me as
i watch it
the commercials created our desires
then packaged our dreams
and trademarked the
empty places we
tried to fill
it begins to rain harder
and i can see
the volcanic
dust
and it’s july 17, 2017
on a wednesday
at 11:00 pm
i bought everything i could
but i’m still alone and
think of you
often
as i lie here stuck in between
yesterday and
tomorrow
in this combustible
bliss

The Purity of Laughter
I can feel your words tracing
my time worn veins
like a jazz drummer
your beats
search
like sonar for lost
fragments
and the rhythm
of your breath
blows
life into these
time worn
veins
and I remember the
purity of your
laughter
and how it
made me
smile

Light
I walked out at my stop on the f train that morning
and saw him playing his plastic keyboard
filling the station with a soundtrack for
the new day
As I climbed the stairs I heard him say
I hope you fall
In love
And as I stepped into the sunlight
I realized I was laughing
and I am light
